Stoke-on-Trent Crime Figures
Over the last 12 months there have been 1863 reported crimes in the Stoke-on-Trent area (figures compiled by combining the areas of Joiners Square & Hanley).
Whilst there has been a reduction in the reporting of some offences, crimes such as anti-social behaviour, violent & sexual offences, burglary / shoplifting / theft, criminal damage & arson, and vehicle crime, continue to remain a significant problem in the area. It is particularly unfortunate, that the offences committed under these categories are the most emotive, and cause the greatest damage to the UK’s communities.
Despite the very best efforts of the Police, of the 1863 reported offences in the Stoke-on-Trent area, only 226 (12%) were successfully dealt with (either by the police or in court). In a staggering 789 cases, the police have been unable to act and have recorded the crime under their “no suspect identified” classification.
In a great many cases, the installation of a professional CCTV system would have resulted in the formal identification of offenders and assisted in a successful outcome for the police. This is a view shared by many senior members of the police force, and in some areas, the police now insist that a professional CCTV system is installed as a condition of trade in certain business sectors.
The installation of a professional CCTV system can have many benefits. CCTV systems offer an excellent deterrent to potential criminals and greatly assist the police in securing a positive outcome.
Indeed, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe recommends that CCTV cameras should be installed by all homeowners and businesses to help detectives solve crimes.
Criminals always choose soft targets where possible. By protecting your business or home with a CCTV system, they invariably choose to go somewhere else.
